Program Management
The Program Management Unit (PMU) has been established under the Ministry of Mahaweli Development & Environment. The PMU is the functional hub to run the MWSIP with the guidance of MMDE and support of ADB. It is strengthened with a range of resources and expertise through each of the Program components. Three PIUs have been established in project regions to implement three main projects that comprise the Program: Minipe Left Bank Canal Rehabilitation Project (MLBCRP), North Western Province Canal Project (NWPCP) and Upper Elahera Canal Project (UECP). The PMU has a leading role in running these projects according to the Program plan.
The Program Management, Design & Supervision Consultant (PMDSC) has been appointed by the MMDE to provide consulting services in key areas of the Program. Offices for PMDSC with the necessary resources are located in the same premises as PMU and alongside the Project Implementation Units (PIUs) in the three regions.
PMDSC services are provided by the joint venture Lahmeyer International GmbH of Germany and Geoconsult ZT GmbH of Austria together with associates comprising NIRAS of Denmark and local consultants Infotechs Ideas (Pvt.) Ltd. and Engineering Consultant
