The Board members of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Sri Lanka Resident Mission led by Mr. Chantale Yokmin Wong undertook a field inspection in Mahaweli Water Security Investment Program (MWSIP) On October 11, 2023.
This delegation, consisting of 20 members, visited the northern portal of the NCP canal, where a massive 28-kilometer underground tunnel is currently under excavation using a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM). During the visit, the Project Director of MWSIP presented an overview of the current status of the NCP canal, the anticipated outcomes, and the future plans for continuing canal construction on ADB financial assistance.
The inspection further went on visiting the ongoing activities related to agricultural productivity improvement component, which is being implemented by the Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka.
Key figures who joined from the MWSIP included Engineer Mr. Nihal Siriwardena, Program Director of MWSIP, Project Director of Project Implementation Unit of NCPCP, Engineer Dr. Boae Freeman, Team Leader of Program Management Design and Supervision Consultant (PMDSC), and key officials from the PMU, PIU and PMDSC of MWSIP.
