Ecological Survey is commenced in NCPC main contract package

North Central Province Canal Project’s one of the main contract packages that consisting of a tunnel 28 Km from Koduruwa (Southern Portal) to Namalpura (Northern Portal) area, known as UEC – ICB-2A is scheduled to be commenced its construction works in near future.

As per the Recommendations of environment Clarence letter and EIA report of UEC, Ecological survey at the allocated construction sites of Northern Portal, Mahameegaswea area (Hurulu Forest Reserve) commenced on 9th of January 2021 by a team led by Program Management, Design and Supervision Consultant (PMDSC). Senior Environmental Officer and Wildlife Management Plan implementation officer from PIU and area Forest Department representative also participating in this survey. 

Main objective of the Ecological Survey is to identify the habitats and endemic and endangered fauna and flora species and translocation to suitable habitats before initiation of land clearance and tree removal. This survey is planned to complete during this week and the other construction works to be followed soon after the survey completed.
