The school-based plantation program

The school-based plantation program launched by the Mahaweli Water Security Investment Program to coincide with World Water Day was recently launched at Puwakpitiya Vidyalaya, a school close to the Knuckles Reserve.

Indigenous plants are selected for this program and the ownership of those plantations belongs to the school community. The school students actively contributed to this and this was implemented by Minipe Left Bank Canal Rehabilitation Project.

This program is planned to be extended to schools with other projects in the future.
