The government key heads visited the project sites of MWSIP

Secretary to the Prime Minister, Mr. Anura Dissanayake, Secretary to the Treasury Mr. K M Mahinda Siriwardana, and his team visited to observe the construction progress of the projects of Mahaweli Water Security Investment Program. On the first day, the visiting team inspected the ongoing renovations in Minipe anicut being implemented by the Minipe Left Bank Canal Rehabilitation Project (MLBCRP) and tunnel constructions in Kaluganga Moragahakanda Transfer Canal Project (KMTCP). The following day, the team visited the southern portal of the 28km long tunnel of the North Central Province Canal Project (NCPCP) and monitored the site progress as well as the on-ground installation of the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM). Thereafter the visit was extended to the northern site portal of the tunnel and observed the construction with TBMs’ excavation. The team sat for a meeting with stakeholders and discussed the progress of the contract package, significant issues, and mechanism for future operation. Eng. D.B. Wijayarathna, Program Director of MWSIP, Eng Ranjith De Silva, Deputy Program Director, and Eng. Michael Chegwin, Team Leader of Program Management Design and Supervision Consultant of MWSIP, Project Directors of Project Implementation Units (PIUs), and key officials of the MWSIP participated in the visit.
