The Secretary to the Ministry of Irrigation, Eng. Ivan De Silva and delegation team of the Asian Development Bank recently visited the filed sites to review the construction progress of the projects of Mahaweli Water Security Investment Program (MWSIP). The team inspected the ongoing constructions in Mahakithula and Mahakirula reservoirs which are being implemented under the Wayamba Maha Ela Project and the 28 km long Irrigation tunnel in the North Central Province Canal Project. The team focused for the challenges and possible solutions in rolling out of these massive constructions. The secretary pointed out the need for making collective effort for completing the constructions in an accelerated manner within scheduled time targets. He further stated that he is in a stand to extend his full support and guidance in completing these projects. Mr. Chen Chen, Country Director at ADB’s Sri Lanka Resident Mission, Eng. Sanath Ranawana, Water Resources Specialist of ADB, Eng. D.B. Wijayarathna, Program Director of MWSIP and Dr. Beau Freemen, Team Leader of Program Management Design and Supervision Consultant of MWSIP, Project directors of Project Implementation Units (PIUs) and key officials of the MWSIP participated at the visit.
