Director General of ADB appraised the MWSIP with supportive hands

Director-General of ADB for South Asian region, Eng. Kenichi Yokohama inspected the Kaluganaga, Moragahakanda reservoir complex for review and inspect the present progress of key projects and future plans of the Mahaweli Water Security Investment Program (MWSIP), which were implemented and planned for the sustainable development of Sri Lanka under the Ministry of Irrigation with the generous assistance from ADB. The visit mainly reviewed the sustainable development goals and the socio-economic and environmental aspects of the future ADB investments towards the MWSIP program.

Secretary of the Ministry of Irrigation, Mr. Anura Dissanayake has eloquently explained the need for the water, transfer of the water to the water stress areas which were further affected by climate change. He has explained this has become a core challenge for the economic, social, and sustainable development of Sri Lanka and there is an acute need for financial assistance to complete the future projects planned to divert the water to the needy areas and indicated the needy financial assistance to complete these projects.

Nihal Siriwardana, Director General of Irrigation Department, Mr. Keerthi B Kotagama, Director General of Mahaweli Authority, Eng. D.B. Wijayarathna, Program Director of MWSIP and Eng. Michael Chegwin, Team Leader of Program Management Design and Supervision Consultant of MWSIP, and many more officers participated in the visit.
