The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is supporting the Mahaweli Water Security Investment Program (MWSIP) by introducing a Commercial Agriculture Development (CAD) component, which will directly benefit farmers through improved irrigation from the North Central Province Canal Project (NCPCP). ADB’s Technical Assistance will fund a feasibility study to develop this CAD initiative further.
A recent workshop in Colombo, organized by MWSIP with the Lanka Fruit and Vegetable Producers, Processors, and Exporters Association, focused on global demand for Sri Lankan fruits. Industry experts discussed opportunities and challenges, highlighting global demand for Sri Lankan fruits, yet underscoring the need for improved production quality, quantity, and year-round supply.
Key speakers included Eng. Nihal Siriwardhana (Program Director MWSIP), Dr. Shiromi Edirimanna (Ministry of Agriculture), Dr. Buddika Abeysinghe (Provincial Agriculture), and Ms. Gayani Wijayathilaka (Export Agriculture Division), all emphasizing the importance of enhanced agricultural infrastructure to increase exports and support economic growth.
Let’s cultivate Sri Lanka’s potential together!
