The Asian Development Bank (ADB) Board of Directors conducted a Loan Review Mission visit for the Mahaweli Water Security Investment Program (MWSIP) in Sri Lanka from July 1 to July 6, 2025. This program is a major multi-tranche financing initiative aimed at improving water security, agricultural productivity, and climate resilience in the country’s dry zone regions by transferring surplus water from the Mahaweli River basin.
During this visit, the team observed the Agriculture Productivity Enhancement Program implemented under the Mahaweli Authority, as well as the tunnel construction site at Palugaswewa, gaining firsthand insight into the progress and impact of these components of the program.
