On June 27, 2025, the Anuradhapura Ceybank Auditorium hosted the crucial feasibility validation workshop for the upcoming Commercial Agriculture Development (CAD) program under the MWSIP Phase II. This ambitious project aims to develop 5,000 hectares of land across Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura districts, focusing on cultivating high-value commercial crops for export markets.
The workshop brought together key stakeholders, including Hon. Susantha Kumara Nawarathna MP, District Secretaries of Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura, Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation Eng. Namali Madawalagama, Director of Procurement Eng. Nandani, provincial and district agriculture and irrigation directors, Deputy Commissioner of Agrarian dipartment, MWSIP Program Director Eng. Nihal Siriwandhana, and the ADB technical consultancy team.
The ADB experts shared their findings and engaged in valuable discussions to refine the project’s approach, ensuring it delivers both financial benefits and technical know-how to local farmers. This initiative promises to boost the region’s agricultural productivity and strengthen its position in the export market.
