The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is conducting a loan review mission for the Mahaweli Water Security Investment Program (MWSIP) Tranches 1, 2, and 3 from December 9 to 18, 2024.
The mission includes both face-to-face and virtual participation. The in-person team is led by Ms. Cholpon Mambetova, Country Operations Head of the Sri Lanka Resident Mission (SLRM), along with Ms. Krishanthi Manohari Dabare,The Mission leader & Rural Development Specialist of Agriculture, Food, Nature, and Rural Development Sector Office, Mr. Saranga Gajasinghe,Senior Safeguards Officer, Ms. Indunil Ranatunge,Financial Management Officer and Ms. Jayathma Pallegoda, Senior Project Assistant. Joining virtually are Mr. Yaozhou Zhou, Principal Water Resources Specialist, and Ms. Rachel F. Mendinueto, Project Analyst.
The mission commenced with a kick-off meeting chaired by Mr. D.P. Wikramasingha, Secretary of Irrigation, and attended by key officials from the Mahaweli Authority and MWSIP.
On December 11 and 12, the team visited key construction sites in the North Central Province Canal (NCPC) area, including tunnel portals and completed canal sections in NWPCP.
They reviewed the progress of the Mahaweli Agriculture Program, engaged with farmers, and observed the proposed Commercial Agriculture Development Program.
The mission focuses on ensuring timely project completion and accelerating remaining work efficiently.
