This was initiated with 100 ha in 2022 by planting indigenous species 50 ha each in Anurdhapura and Polonnaruwa Districts respectively.

MWSIP has identified lands through FD and also the replanting is done by a subcontractor under the supervision of the FD. At the date of 15.01.2023, an area of 30 ha in Paludaswewa DSD in Anuradhapura District has been planted with 30000 plants. It is planned to continue and complete the entire 100 ha of reforestation and enrichment planting program with the onset of monsoon rains in the year 2023. Progress of the reforestation activity will be monitored and provide suggestions for improvements by a Monitoring Committee (MC) which is comprised of members from the FD, MWSIP, Supervision Consultant and the Contractor. The maintenance of the area will be done up to the year 2024 by the contractor, and MWSIP plans to hand over the site to the FD at the end of 2024..
