A delegation of officials from the Department of National Planning, Department of External Resources, Department of Treasury Operations, Department of National Budget, and Department of Project Management and Monitoring conducted a joint visit to key construction sites under the Mahaweli Water Security Investment Program (MWSIP). The visit aimed to address ongoing challenges and evaluate the progress of the North Central Province Canal Project (NCPCP) and the North Western Province Canal Project (NWPCP).
During the visit to the NCPCP, where a significant construction effort involves a 27-kilometer-long tunnel, the officials examined both ends of the tunnel. They engaged in detailed discussions to address the critical issues impacting the project’s timeline. The team also inspected the Kaluganga Moragahakanda transfer Cannel (KMTC), which is closing its commissioning phase.
At the NWPCP site, the canal section runs from Wemedilla to the Nilagama tunnel inlet is nearing completion. The delegation conducted inspections at selected points along the canal to ensure quality and progress.The visiting officials stressed the importance of adhering to the project timeline and expressed their commitment to providing full support to meet the project’s goals. The visit was actively supported and facilitated by Program Director Eng. Nihal Siriwardana and other MWSIP officials.
