A special discussion session was held on September 5, 2025, at the Anuradhapura District Secretariat Auditorium to inform the political leaders of the district about the commercial Agriculture development project planned for implementation in the North Central Province under the second phase of the Mahaweli Water Security Investment Program, and to gather opinions and proposals.
The session was chaired by Deputy Minister of Lands and Irrigation, Dr. Susil Ranasinghe, and attended by Hon. Susanta Kumara Navaratne, Member of Parliament, along with local councilors from the Anuradhapura district and representatives of various stakeholder organizations.
Detailed information about the progress and objectives of the program was provided by Engineer Nihal Siriwardhana, Program Director of the Mahaweli Water Security Investment Program. The technical aspects of the commercial Agriculture Development project were explained by Engineer L.K. D. Alwis, Deputy Team Leader of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) team.
During the session, several important suggestions and ideas were presented for future development activities.
Deputy Minister Dr. Susil Ranasinghe emphasized, “To establish a strong export-oriented entrepreneurial sector, a systematic plan and robust implementation from the grassroots level is essential. The government is ready to build an entrepreneurial community focused on agricultural exports.”
