An awareness workshop was held on November 29, 2024, at the Provincial Secretariat Office in Anuradhapura for the newly appointed Governor, Members of Parliament (MPs), and key officials of the North Central Provincial Council.
The program aimed to provide a comprehensive overview of the North Central Province Canal and its Wildlife Management Plan. The session included presentations followed by a productive Q&A segment, during which the project team addressed numerous questions and answered many misinformation about the project. Participants commended the initiative, with many expressing appreciations for the insights shared. Several MPs and officials requested an observation visit to the tunnel construction sites for a closer understanding of the project.
Key attendees included the Governor of North Central Province, Mr. Wasantha Ginadasa, newly elected MPs from the government side MP. Senior prof. Sena Nanayakkara, MP Susantha Kumara Nawarathna, MP Thilina Tharuka Samarakoon, MP Attorney at law. Bagya Sri Herath and opposition side MP Suranga Rathnayake.
Chief Secretary Mr. R.M.W.S.Samaradiwakara, Governor’s Secretary Mr.W.G.W. Wanasingha, and other key provincial council officials.
Presentations were delivered by the Project Director, Eng. Senavirathna Banda; Eng. M.W. Senerath Mendis and Senior Wildlife Officer Mr. Shantha Darmasiri.
The event was organized by the project’s communication team, who ensured a seamless and informative program.
